We walked up a bunch of stairs to get to the lake, which we crossed on a little ferry. Then we took the very cool chair lift part way up the mountain. (The chair lift was the reason I took the hip carrier and the backpack... I wouldn't have wanted AB on my back on that thing! It took a long time to get to the top, but it felt very safe and was a beautiful ride.

AB sacked out in the pack for a while (she even slept through our lunch!). We climbed up and up and up and up... every few hundreds steps, there was a temple and usually shops or little restaurants or vending stands. There were also men walking up and down, offering to carry people on their shoulders on bamboo poles with a kind of seat hanging between them. The walk was treacherous enough that I would never have dared be carried... if I was going to fall, it was going to have to be my own fault!

As we approached the top, we came upon a wall with bazillions of padlocks attached to it. I think the lock is supposed to be a symbol of longevity or something... not really sure. It was kind of neat looking, though! At the very top of the mountain was one last temple that we climbed to the top of also to see the very best view... (from one of the pics you can see the lake and the chair lift... and how much further up we climbed!

The way down (though not as hard exercise as going up) was scary! We took the chair lift part way up and then walked all the way down on a different path. Some of the steps were very tiny and very uneven, so it made me very nervous! Also, there were people going the opposite way at the same time! There was at least a good sign to warn us (though we came across it after we passed the cliffiest slope and slip part of the road!
